Background

The Kenyan Chapter of the African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (KeAWARD) is actively involved in empowering high school students through mentorship and motivational talks, role modeling, and career guidance to motivate students and promote STEM subjects. The School visits also aim to educate and impart knowledge, skills, and attitudes gained during the AWARD fellowship. These interactions help the students develop strong personal life skills, take up meaningful careers in science, and become change-makers in their societies.

To make the mentorship programs more enriching, and interactive and to enable students to gain a better appreciation of science, KeAWARD has partnered with the IVVN schools outreach program which seeks to introduce high school students to basic science skills in the field of vaccinology. It was therefore needful to train KeAWARD members and other scientists who are passionate about mentorship on the IVVN to equip them for future mentorship expeditions.
